Stonehenge was built in 3 stages. The first stage about 3100BC comprised of a circle of wooden timbers surrounded by a ditch, a bank and Aubrey holes, that together formed a large circle of about 284 feet in diameter. Not long after this Stonehenge was abandoned for approximately 1000 years.
